Abstract
The antioxidant and anti-diabetes effects were evaluated by the ethanol extracts from Astragalus membranaceus
root classified by years using through DPPH radical scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical (¡¤OH) scavenging activity, total phenolic and flavonoid contents, reducing power activity, ¥á-amylase and ¥á-glucosidase inhibitory activities. IC50 values for DPPH radical scavenging activity of ethanol extract from 6 years old root (749.25¥ìg/mL) was higher than 1 year (1452.67¥ìg/mL) and 3 years old root (1095.61 ¥ìg/mL). 6 years old root showed better effects in ¡¤OH scavenging activity (IC50: 10.58 ¥ìg/mL), reducing power, total phenolic contents (26.13¡¾0.79 Tan¥ìg/mg, 24.03¡¾0.74 Cat ¥ìg/mg) ¥á-amylase (33.33¡¾0.55%) and ¥á-glucosidase inhibitory activity (49.71¡¾1.01%). On the other hand, total flavonoid compound contents were estimated much higher in 1 year old root (44.93¡¾1.35 Que ¥ìg/mg, 70.32¡¾2.03 Rut ¥ìg/mg) than others. Based on these results, It was suggested that 6 years old root of A. membranaceus has a potential candidate for functional cosmetic and medicine.
